Most commonly known as “Dan W.” I’ve been described as a “charter member of the climate-energy wonk club.”

Dan Woynillowicz is an accomplished leader focused on developing and implementing effective energy and climate policies. An experienced researcher, analyst, strategist, and communicator, he blends policy expertise with an understanding of technology innovation and market transformation.

In 2020 he launched Polaris Strategy + Insight, a strategic advisory firm helping clients navigate the energy transition and find opportunities in climate solutions. He is a volunteer advisor to Urban Climate Solutions and the Clean Economy Fund, and from 2020-25 served as Board chair of the BC Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE). Dan also served as an external expert advisor to the BC government’s BC Hydro Task Force, which positioned BC Hydro to meet the province’s fast-growing demand for clean electricity.

Actively engaged in federal and provincial energy and climate change policy development, Dan has led numerous studies on the environment, climate change, and economic policy dimensions of Canadian energy production and use.

He is frequently called to testify before regulatory and legislative bodies and provides regular media commentary on energy issues. He has authored numerous reports, published commentaries in leading publications, and spoken at conferences and roundtables throughout North America and Europe. In 2019 he received a Clean50 award for advocacy, recognizing his leadership in advancing clean energy solutions in Canada.

Dan holds a master’s degree in environment and management from Royal Roads University and a bachelor of science in environmental science from the University of Calgary.

He lives, works, and plays on unceded Coast Salish Territory, specifically that of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples (Victoria, BC).
